Ontario Condo Water Damage Response and Claims Guide
Browse the insurance glossaryPolicy Responsibility Allocation and Verification
Condo unit insurance differs from whole-building home insurance; the condo corporation's policy typically covers the building's exterior structure and common areas. When a water leak occurs, the unit owner should not infer which policy provides coverage based solely on the location of the incident. You should review both your own condo policy and the condo corporation's policy; the insurer will only pay for the specific losses listed under your personal policy.
Claims Process and Document Submission
If you decide to file a claim, you should contact your insurance agent, broker, or insurer as soon as possible and provide supporting documents as required by the policy; this article does not specify a fixed claims reporting deadline.
